Think of an academic coach as similar to a personal trainer for your child’s mind.
Like a personal trainer, the coach will tailor exercises, suggest new techniques,
offer encouragement and provide advice to help them achieve their academic
goals. Academic coaching process is a one-on-one weekly interaction for an extended period of time (in person or online) that aids students in examining their academic concerns and perceived achievement hurdles; it is a working
partnership that focuses on the process of learning. As coaches we offer each student individualized support throughout the entire school term or an academic year, evaluate the student's strengths and needs, and create a unique action plan.
Academic Coaching is NOT...
Tutoring
This specifically designed to help students improve their understanding of specific subjects, academic coaching is more geared towards helping students develop the skills and strategies they need to succeed in school and beyond.
Therapy
It is not therapy because it does not involve the treatment of mental health issues or emotional problems, (we refer to our therapist partners when needed).
Counselling
It's not counseling because it does not involve the treatment of mental health issues or emotional problems. Counseling is a type of therapy that is designed to help individuals address and resolve psychological or emotional problems.
IT IS ALL ABOUT LEARNING FITNESS
Unlike unlike a personal trainer, the academic coach is focused on enhancing
their learning fitness. This means employing strategies grounded in the
neuroscience of learning to improve executive functioning, organize the learning process and foster cooperation between the student and coach. The ultimate objective of an academic coach is to empower students to succeed. We support for Top athletes, Students taking AP classes, students with Executive Function challenges but not on the ASD or ADHD diagnosis.
We also support Students with learning difficulties such as ADHD (Attention
Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder), ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder), and MDD
(Major Depressive Disorder) to achieve academic success.
